Hamister Heads the Hawks in the Right Direction

HAMBURG, N.Y. – Matt Hamister earned his first Hilbert hat-trick to lead the Hawks to the season's first victory in the 3-1 non-conference game against Morrisville State September 14. Hilbert (1-3) held the Mustangs scoreless in the second half while turning up their offensive production in front of their home fans in Hamburg.

Morrisville's Nicholas Constantino reached early in the opening minutes (11th minute) but didn't hold the lead long. Hamister headed Tyler Eister's serve in front of the box and angled it away from Morrisville's Rob Larkin in the 18th minute.

Both teams went to their sidelines knotted at 1-1 by the half, but Hilbert opened the second forty-five attacking the frame. Besides the made penalty kick by Hamister at 52:20, the Hawks fired three other close calls at Rob Larkin, forcing a keeper change at 58:20.

Eric Berglund didn't even break a sweat in goal before Hamister headed home his second high-ball, this time off an Ed Minkel cross off a corner kick at 58:45.

Hilbert was credited with 17 shots and 6 corner kicks while Morrisville had 15 shots and only 3 corner kicks.

Jeremy Kraska earned his third start and first win in goal, making 10 saves. Morrisville's Larkin was credited with 5 saves but surrendered two scores and Berglund finished with three saves.

Hilbert is set to travel to Greenville, PA for their Hilbert/Thiel double header soccer game September 19. The men's game starts at 4pm and the women will follow at 6pm.
