 ALFRED, N.Y. – The Alfred University men's soccer team outlasted the visiting Hilbert Hawks Tuesday night when both teams played a non-conference match under the lights of Merrill Field. The Saxons (2-3) picked up their first home victory with the 3-1 final over the Hawks (0-3).
 
 Alfred controlled the pace of the game and held a 15-11 shot and a five to three corner kick advantage during an unusually warm September night. The Hawks were better sharp shooters, with eight of their 11 shots on frame, while two-thirds of Alfred's attempts flew wide.
 
 The Saxons struck first in the 31st minute off a header by Zachary Kranefeld and then converted a penalty kick in the 43rd minute to go up 2-0 by intermission.
 
 Alfred snuck one more past 
Jeremy Kraska before Hilbert freshman 
Tyler Eister earned his first collegiate score in the 77th minute.
 
 Kraska was credited with two saves in his second start of the season, and Sam Guy (2 saves) and Jacob Bird (5 saves) split net-time for Alfred.
 
 Hilbert returns to Hamburg for a non-conference game on Saturday, September 14
th against Morrisville State. The single game will begin at 3pm.
