Hawks Fall 4-0 Under The Lights

Box Score
ORCHARD PARK, NY- The Hilbert women's soccer team, originally scheduled to play their final home game this afternoon on campus, had to move the contest to Orchard Park High School because of the standing water on the Hawks' varsity field. Despite the move to the turf field and the excitement of playing under the lights, the Hawks continued their struggle offensively and lost, 4-0, to second place D'Youville College (6-1-1).

D'Yoville was paced by forward Danielle Gehen who scored a hat trick in the first half which gives her nine goals on the season. Elizabeth Lyons netted right before intermission to give the visitors a 4-0 lead at the break.

The Hawks continued their offensive struggles against a top-notch D'Youville defense. Hilbert had limited scoring chances, getting only one shot on goal. The Hawks did challenge the tough Spartan defense in the second half but they did not capitalize. Early in the second half, Chelsea Olson won a 50-50 ball from the keeper but her ensuing shot was just a touch too wide of the frame.

Despite allowing four goals during the game, Hilbert's defense stepped it up and only allowed eight shots on goal, after averaging 28 shots on goal per game in their last two matches.

Hilbert (3-11, 1-6) has two games left in their 2013 season and both games are on the road. They will travel to La Roche this Saturday and will end at Penn State Behrend October 29.
