Antonio Alvarez was literally on-fire last week and burned his way to his second Hawk of the Week honor.

Alvarez led the men’s basketball team to a 2-0 record after scoring 63 points, grabbing nine rebounds and swiping three steals.  The rookie guard averaged 31.5 points and 4.5 rebounds per game in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference wins against D’Youville and Pitt-Greensburg.

For the week, Alvarez drained 17 of 18 (94.4 percent) from beyond the arc and shot 77.8 percent from the floor in 23 minutes of action per game. 

The freshman guard scored a career high 34 points in the 100-75 win Wednesday night against D’Youville, draining 12 of 13 shots from the floor (10-for-11 from 3-point land). 

He followed that performance with a 29-point game against Greensburg (84-58) going 7-for-7 from downtown.

Alvarez leads the Hawks with 35 made 3-point shots at an impressive .427 clip and leads the men’s team with 6.6 rebounds per game, while 69 of his 151 total boards were earned on the offensive glass.
