Indrek Kongats

Indrek Kongats is in his fourth season as an assistant men’s basketball coach at Hilbert College and serves in a variety of capacities for the Hawks.  The seasoned veteran coordinates film exchange while assisting with recruiting, scouting, practice and game day planning.  On the court Kongats oversees the development of the program’s post players.

Kongats last coached at Nelson High School outside his native Burlington, Ontario in Canada from 1992-1996 and led his former team to the Halton District Championship.

After a stellar playing career with the Lords, Kongats accepted a scholarship to NCAA Division I Colgate University before finishing his collegiate career back in Ontario at McMaster University. It was here that the former team MVP and league all-star earned a spot on the Canadian National and Pre-Olympic qualifying teams prior to the 1976 Olympics in Montreal, Quebec.

After exhausting his amateur status, Kongats played solely at the international level with the Toronto Estonian Basketball Club as well as the Ausra Lithuanian Basketball Club until 1997.

Kongats has coached at a variety of summer basketball camps and clinics across New York and Ontario. He holds a bachelor’s degree in art history and art studio from McMaster.
