Patrick Whelan

Patrick Whelan begins his first season as a collegiate coach during the 2025-26 academic year at Hilbert College. Whelan is no stranger to the AMCC having spent five collegiate seasons in the AMCC during his collegiate playing career.

Whelan was named the Male Athlete of the Year at two different AMCC institutions, Medaille (2021) and Hilbert (2022). During his collegiate career, he became the first player in Hilbert Baseball history to earn All-Region 7 honors twice, while also earning AMCC All-Conference honors in four consecutive seasons (2021-24).

Whelan was also recognized with exemplary performance in the classroom, having earned AMCC All-Academic and Individual Peak Performer honors in four consecutive years as well (2021-24). The 3-time Hilbert captain was inducted into the Chi Alpha Sigma Academic Honor Society in 2021–22 and the Sigma Beta Delta Honor Society in 2022–23.

Whelan continues his Hilbert legacy now joining the coaching ranks after a historic career sporting the royal and white. He currently stands as the program’s career record holder in home runs (18), runs batted in (125), total bases (237), intentional walks (12), and hit by pitches (30). His transition into coaching adds firsthand championship-level experience, academic excellence, and program-defining success to the Hawks’ coaching staff.
