HAMBURG, N.Y. – Hilbert College Men's Soccer hosted senior day this afternoon, ahead of a non-conference matchup with Penn State Greater Allegheny at St. Francis High school.
Prior to the start of the contest, the Hawks honored seniors
Cam Murdie,
Stephen Winans,
Ethan Masse, and
Evan Mundie for their contributions to the program.
On the field, Hilbert generated plenty of offensive opportunities,but came up short in a 4-1 loss to the Lions.
The Hawks controlled much of the play in the opening half, outshooting the visitors 15-5 before intermission and earning six corner kicks. Despite the pressure, Penn St.-Gr Allegheny took a 1-0 lead in the 40th minute, which is how things would stand heading into the break.
Hilbert threatened on several occasions in the first half.
Cam Murdie recorded multiple shots on target and nearly drew the Hawks level, but a penalty kick in the 33rd minute was stopped by goalkeeper Jameson Burriss.
The Lions extended their lead in the second half with a goal in the 60th minute before striking again in the 74th minute to make it 3-0.
The Hawks broke through in the 83rd minute when
Brian Frazer found
Hamso Dagane, who buried his first goal of the season to cut the deficit to 3-1. Frazer tallied his first collegiate assist on the goal on a well-played through ball to Dagne who made no mistake in the bottom corner of the goal.
The momentum was short-lived, however, as Greater Allegheny added an insurance marker in the final minute to account for the 4-1 final score.
Dagane paced the Hilbert attack with seven shots and a goal, while Murdie added six shots, including four on goal.
Vincent Nkurunziza contributed two shots on target as the Hawks finished with a 21-19 advantage in shots and a 7-5 edge in corner kicks.
In goal,
Colten Wolowski made five saves for the Hawks.
