ALFRED, N.Y. - Hilbert dropped an AMCC contest on the road Tuesday evening, falling 21–4 to Alfred State College at Pioneer Stadium.
The Hawks showed early fight, weathering an initial surge before getting on the board late in the first quarter. After Alfred State opened with three straight goals, Olivia Horn finished off a feed from Sam Accurso to cut the deficit to 3–1 heading into the second.
Hilbert found a brief spark midway through the second quarter. Caitlin Conrad scored unassisted, followed by Accurso finishing a setup from Madison Matuszak to make it 7–3. After another Pioneer push, Horn struck again in the closing seconds of the half off another Matuszak assist, sending Hilbert into the break trailing 10–4.
Despite the momentum late in the second, the Hawks were held scoreless over the final 30 minutes as Alfred State pulled away.
Horn led the Hilbert offense with two goals on five shots, while Accurso added a goal and an assist. Conrad also found the back of the net, and Matuszak dished out two assists. The Hawks totaled 11 shots, with seven on goal.
Defensively, Hilbert was paced by Conrad with a team-high six draw controls while adding a ground ball and a caused turnover. Olivia Cleary led the team with five ground balls, and Madeleine Cook contributed three draw controls. As a team, the Hawks collected 17 ground balls and forced 14 turnovers.
In goal, Olivia Cleary made six saves over the first half, while Summer Newman added three saves in relief.
Hilbert (1-7, 0-2 AMCC) will look to regroup as conference play continues this weekend for another road game at Pitt-Bradford April 11th.
