ALTOONA, Pa. – The Hilbert College men's volleyball team pushed Penn State Altoona to five sets but ultimately fell 3-2 in AMCC action Saturday afternoon inside Adler Arena.
The Hawks opened the match strong, claiming the first set 25-17 behind an impressive offensive performance that saw the team record 12 kills while hitting .321. Penn State Altoona responded by taking the next two sets, 25-17 and 25-18, to gain control of the match.
Hilbert answered in the fourth set with one of its best hitting performances of the day. The Hawks tallied 12 kills with just three errors on 27 attempts for a .333 hitting percentage, earning a 25-19 win to force a decisive fifth set.
In the final frame, the Lions held off the Hawks' late push and secured the match with a 15-9 victory.
Nikolas D'Andrea led Hilbert with a match-high 24 kills while adding 12 digs recording his second double double this spring (and third in his career), in addition to three blocks.
Justin Veal contributed 14 kills, five blocks, and three service aces, while
Michael Pozzuto anchored the defense with 18 digs.
Jacob Sehn directed the offense with 45 assists and added nine digs.
As a team, Hilbert finished with 48 kills, seven aces, and 50 digs.
Penn State Altoona was led by Caleb Fries with 22 kills while Jack McKenna added 10 kills and four service aces.
Hilbert drops to 3-16 overall and 1-5 in AMCC play while Penn State Altoona improves to 5-13 overall and 3-2 in the conference.
