CRESSON, Pa. – Hilbert Men's Volleyball pushed Mount Aloysius to the limit Friday evening but ultimately fell in four sets, 3-1, in AMCC action at the Athletic Convocation & Wellness Center.
The Hawks battled throughout the contest before the Mounties secured the match with set scores of 25-21, 25-22, 28-30, and 34-32.
Hilbert showed resilience after dropping the opening two sets. The Hawks recorded only five kills in the opening set (-.029) but rebounded with 11 kills with a match-low four errors in the second set.
The Hawks responded in the third set, using a balanced offensive effort fueled by a match-best .226 attack percent to pull out a 30-28 victory and extend the match.
The fourth set turned into the most competitive frame of the night as both teams traded points late, battling through 18 tied scores and 10 lead changes. Hilbert fought off multiple match points and pushed the set deep into extra points before Mount Aloysius finally closed the door 34-32.
Nikolas D'Andrea delivered a standout performance for the Hawks, finishing with a match-high 26 kills while adding four service aces.
Justin Veal added 10 kills and three blocks, while
Xavier Edwards contributed four kills, two aces, and three blocks.
Setter
Mehkai Francis orchestrated the offense with 40 assists and added four blocks.
Defensively,
Jacob Sehn and
Michael Pozzuto anchored the back row with 13 digs each, while
Garyson Gaud chipped in eight digs.
Mount Aloysius was led by Brady Diegelman with 22 kills and 26 digs, while Zach Rosenwald added 20 kills for the Mounties.
Hilbert moves to 3-15 overall and 1-4 in AMCC play after the loss and will turn around and face Penn State Altoona tomorrow at 1 pm in the Alder Complex.
