Baseball Wins Big Against Fredonia

AMHERST, NY – Hilbert College Baseball opened the home portion of its 2026 campaign this afternoon as the Hawks hosted Fredonia at Sweet Home High School. Hilbert improved to 2-3 on the young season with a decisive 14-3 victory over the Blue Devils.

Hilbert wasted no time getting on the board, plating three runs in the bottom of the first inning with the help of patience at the plate. The Hawks drew four walks and were hit by two pitches in the frame, as Jude Khoury and Shane Pray each delivered RBI free passes to give Hilbert an early advantage.

Fredonia answered with three runs in the top of the second to even the score, but Hilbert responded quickly. Joey Haynes tripled to center field to open the bottom of the inning and later scored on an error, restoring the Hawks' lead at 4–3.

The Hawks added two more runs in the third, highlighted by a sacrifice fly from Garrett Brink and an unearned run following a Fredonia miscue, pushing the margin to 6–3.

After Fredonia scratched across a run in the seventh to cut the deficit to two, Hilbert's offense broke the game wide open in the eighth. The Hawks capitalized on defensive errors and disciplined at-bats, sending 12 hitters to the plate. Reed Lesmeister drew an RBI walk, Shane Pray knocked in a run with a single, and Woodley Fisher delivered a pair of RBI on his first career hit as Hilbert poured on seven runs in the inning.

On the mound, Ronald Mort earned the win for Hilbert, tossing 3.2 scoreless innings in relief while striking out five and allowing just three hits. David Alessi, Johnray Hasfurter, and Andre Borges all added scoreless appearances in the contest as well.

Offensively, Joey Haynes led the way with three runs scored, while Shane Pray finished with two hits and two RBI. Jude Khoury added two hits and an RBI, and Woodley Fisher drove in a pair off the bench.
