HAMBURG, N.Y. - Hilbert Men's Lacrosse fell 19-2 to Canton on Saturday evening at Frontier High School, as a decisive second-quarter run by the visitors proved too much to overcome.
The Hawks struck first when
Eric Capling found the back of the net midway through the opening quarter, giving Hilbert an early 1-0 lead. The defense held strong through the remainder of the period, keeping Canton off the scoreboard and carrying momentum into the second.
However, the game shifted dramatically in the second quarter. Canton erupted for 10 unanswered goals in a span of just under 12 minutes, turning a one-goal deficit into a commanding 10-1 advantage by halftime. Nathan Taylor led the surge, accounting for multiple scores during the stretch.
Hilbert continued to compete in the second half, with
Kristopher Newman finishing a feed from
Aidan Franko in the third quarter for the Hawks' second goal. Despite the effort, Canton maintained offensive pressure, adding nine more goals across the final two periods.
Capling and Newman each recorded a goal for Hilbert, while Franko added an assist.
Defensively, the Hawks faced a high-volume attack led by Taylor's six goals and strong complementary scoring from Brady Frost and Michael Newcomb.
Canton finished the game with 16 caused turnovers as the Hawks scooped six –
David Bolin leading the way with two.
Jose Pizarro recorded eight saves in the game's first 45 minutes.
The Hawks, 1-2, return to action March 25th with a road game at Keuka College.
