WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - The Hilbert College women's lacrosse team continued its early-season slate on Saturday afternoon, falling to Lycoming College, 23–0, in non-conference action at UPMC Field.
Despite the final score, the Hawks showed determination throughout the contest, continuing to compete and gain valuable experience against a Lycoming squad that improved to 3–4 on the season. Hilbert, now 0–3, remained engaged defensively and worked to limit opportunities while facing sustained offensive pressure from the home team.
Lycoming opened the scoring early in the first quarter and built momentum behind a strong offensive performance from Riley Block, who finished with 12 goals. The Warriors led 8–0 after the opening period and added four more in the second quarter to take a 12–0 lead into halftime.
Hilbert continued to battle through the second half, with the defense working through several man-down situations after penalties. The Hawks remained active in the midfield and defensive zones, forcing
Lycoming to earn its scoring chances while continuing to rotate players and build experience against a high-tempo attack.
Madison Matuszak led the Hawks with three shots (1 on goal) while
Olivia Horn added a shot on goal.
McKenna Rice and
Ellie Pembleton each attempted one free position shot which fueled the Hawks offensive push.
Olivia Cleary recorded seven saves and a team-high five ground balls in her opening 45 minutes between the pipes.
Lycoming added six goals in the third quarter and five in the fourth to close out the scoring.
Hilbert will remain on the road next week as the Hawks travel to take on Hiram College on March 18. The opening draw is scheduled for 4 p.m. Ohio.
