MARCY, N.Y. – Hilbert Men's Lacrosse closed the game with a strong fourth-quarter push but ultimately fell 18–3 to SUNY Poly Wednesday afternoon at Wildcat Field.
Hilbert moves to 1-1 on the season while the Wildcats remain unbeaten at 3-0.
SUNY Poly established momentum early, scoring nine goals in the opening quarter to take control of the contest. The Wildcats added three more in the second period to carry a 12-0 lead into halftime.
The hosts extended their advantage in the third quarter with five additional hits before the Hawks found their rhythm offensively in the final frame.
Hilbert broke through early in the fourth quarter when
Kristopher Newman scored off a feed from
Eric Capling at the 13:02 mark. Just under three minutes later,
Nathaniel Dell found the back of the net on another assist from Capling to make it 17-2. The Hawks added a third goal midway through the quarter when
Aidan Franko converted a man-up opportunity off a pass from Dell.
SUNY Poly added one late goal to close out the scoring.
Dell, Franko, and Newman each scored once for the Hawks while Capling recorded two assists in the fourth-quarter rally. The Wildcats were led by Kai Hew with five goals and Casey Ryan with four.
SUNY Poly finished the game with an 18-5 advantage in caused turnovers as
Jonathan Roustum and
Davon Dyson recorded two each.
After facing 32 shots from the Wildcats
Jose Pizarro finished with 14 saves in his second collegiate contest.
The Hawks have 10 days to gear up for their next game. Hilbert will host SUNY Canton in a 5 pm contest Saturday, March 21st at Frontier High School after the women's 3 pm game.
