PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Hilbert Men's Basketball powered its way to a 90-76 AMCC road victory over Carlow University on Saturday afternoon at Oakland Catholic High School's Donahue Pavilion.
With the win, the Hawks secured the program's 15th appearance in the upcoming Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference postseason tournament since Hilbert joined the AMCC league in 2004. This year marks the 10th time Hilbert has earned a top 4 seed in the tournament.
The No. 4 Hawks (8-8) will host No. 5 Penn State Altoona (6-10) Tuesday, February 24th at 7:00 pm in the Hafner Recreation Center.
Today's game at Carlow University featured eight lead changes and three ties. Hilbert carried a 37-29 advantage into the break after a back-and-forth affair the opening session.
The Hawks found another gear over the final 20 minutes, shooting 50 percent from the floor and knocking down 10-of-13 free throws to pull away for the 14-point victory.
Hilbert dominated the interior, outscoring Carlow 64-36 in the paint while holding a commanding 57-32 advantage on the glass. The Hawks also turned 21 offensive rebounds into 27 second-chance points and added 22 fast-break points to keep the pressure on throughout the afternoon.
Larry Morse led the way with a game-high 30 points on an efficient 13-of-19 shooting effort. The senior also pulled down 13 rebounds to record another dominant double-double performance.
Ari Jones added 23 points and 10 rebounds, earning his first double-double as a Hawk but it was
Demetrius Robinson who provided a huge spark off the bench with his first double-double of 18 points and a game-high 14 rebounds.
Jayden Montgomery recorded his sixth double figure assist performance after dishing 10 assists while adding seven rebounds.
Hilbert shot 47.4 percent from the field for the game and forced 11 turnovers, converting those miscues into 16 points.
Hilbert finished the regular season with a 15-10 record and will now focus their sights on winning the program's first AMCC championship title.
