HAMBURG, N.Y. – The Hilbert Hawks women's soccer team picked up a key conference victory Wednesday afternoon, defeating Carlow University 1-0 at Hawk Field. The win improves Hilbert to 2-3 in conference play.
After a scoreless first half that saw both teams generate offensive opportunities, the Hawks broke through early in the second period. In the 51st minute, Julia Fabiano found the back of the net off a setup from Kendall Shetter and Valentine Hauser, scoring what proved to be the game-winning goal at the 50:39 mark.
Hilbert controlled much of the attacking play throughout the contest, outshooting the Celtics 25-22 and holding an 8-3 advantage in corner kicks. The Hawks put seven shots on target while creating consistent pressure in the offensive third.
Defensively, Hilbert received a standout performance from goalkeeper Keira McFarland, who recorded nine saves to preserve her clean sheet. McFarland made several key stops throughout the match, including five saves in the second half as Carlow pushed for an equalizer.
Offensively, Novalee Schlenker paced the Hawks with four shots, all on goal, while Acadia Evans added four attempts. Fabiano finished with the game's lone goal on one of her three shots.
