ERIE, Pa. – Hilbert Men's Volleyball faced a pair of President's Athletic Conference non-conference opponents today in the Junker Center Gym as part of the AMCC-PAC crossover weekend.
The Hawks dropped a pair of straight-set decisions to Grove City College and Geneva College and slipped to 1-5 overall.
Hilbert opened the day against Geneva College and suffered a 3–0 setback by scores of 25–20, 25–22, and 25–10. The Hawks stayed competitive in the first two sets, hitting .200 and .292 respectively, but Geneva pulled away late behind a highly efficient attack.
Senior
Nikolas D'Andrea paced Hilbert offensively, posting a match-high 13 kills.
Michael Pozzuto added eight kills and seven digs, while
Justin Veal chipped in seven kills and a team-best two blocks.
Brinton McClain finished the match with 20 assists, continuing to quarterback the Hawks' offense.
In the afternoon finale, Hilbert faced Grove City, falling by scores of 25–21, 25–17, and 25–23. The Hawks showed resilience throughout the match, particularly in the opening and closing sets, but the Wolverines' consistent offense proved to be the difference.
D'Andrea led Hilbert with nine kills while adding two blocks and six digs. Veal followed with eight kills and two blocks, and first-year middle
Stephen Winans also recorded two blocks at the net. McClain distributed 16 assists, while
Jacob Sehn anchored the defense with a match-high 10 digs.
Hilbert returns to action next Saturday when they travel to Hiram, OH for a trimatch against Hiram College and Elmira College with the first serve beginning at 2 pm.
