ERIE, Pa. – Hiram College earned a straight-set victory over Hilbert College on Thursday night, defeating the Hawks 3–0 in nonconference men's volleyball action at the Junker Center Gym.
Hiram (1-1) took the match by scores of 25-15, 25-20, and 25-23, while Hilbert dropped to 1-3 in the first night of the AMCC vs PAC weekend series.
The Hawks showed improvement as the match progressed, closing the gap in each set and hitting a team-best .226 clip in the third frame. Hilbert recorded 11 kills in the final set and pushed Hiram late before the Terriers closed out the sweep.
Senior
Nikolas D'Andrea led all Hawks with a match-high 13 kills while adding two service aces and seven digs.
Justin Veal followed closely with 12 kills and an ace, and
Michael Pozzuto chipped in three kills.
Freshman setter
Brinton McClain orchestrated the offense with 23 assists while also contributing eight digs. Defensively,
Jacob Sehn and McClain shared team-high honors with eight digs apiece, while
Mehkai Francis, D'Andrea, and McClain each recorded a block.
The Hawks will return to the Junker Center tomorrow and closeout two crossover matches against Geneva College (2 pm) and Grove City College (4 pm).
