Soaring Eagles Take Down the Hawks, 3-1

HAMBURG, N.Y. – Hilbert Men's Volleyball fought through four competitive sets Wednesday night but came up short in a 3–1 loss to Elmira College in non-conference action inside the  Brad Hafner Recreation Center.

After dropping the opening set (25-14), the Hawks responded with a strong performance in the second frame, evening the match with a 25–23 victory with a .259 efficiency on attack. Hilbert continued to push Elmira in the third set, but the visitors edged out a tight 25–23 decision to regain momentum before closing the match with a 25–18 win in the fourth.

Nikolas D'Andrea and Justin Veal led the Hawks with 12 kills each, providing consistent offense from both pins. Michael Pozzuto added nine kills while also contributing three assists and six digs in a versatile performance.

Sifting to a new role tonight, Jacob Sehn directed the offense with 30 assists, while the back row was anchored by Sam Rastelli, who recorded a team-high 10 digs. D'Andrea added seven digs to go along with his offensive production.

At the net, Mehkai Francis and D'Andrea each posted two blocks, helping slow Elmira's attack in key stretches.

Hilbert showed some life and excitement in the final three sets of the match, particularly in sets two and three, trading runs and forcing extended rallies against a strong Elmira squad.

The Hawks finished with 37 kills, 36 assists, and 34 digs, while Elmira recorded 69 points, 57 kills, seven service aces, five blocks and 44 digs.

Hilbert moves to 1–3 on the season and will look to bounce back this weekend when they travel to Erie, PA for three matches inside Penn State Behrend's Junker Center.  The Hawks, Penn State Behrend and Penn State Altoona (AMCC) will battle against Hiram, Geneva and Grove City (PAC) in crossover neutral site matches both Friday and Saturday.  Hilbert will face Hiram at 7 pm Friday, then Geneva (2pm) and Grove City (4pm) on Saturday.
