BROCKPORT, N.Y. – Hilbert College women's volleyball played in two more very competitive matches today but ultimately fell short in both contests against SUNY Morrisville and host SUNY Brockport in the Jim and John Vlogianitis Gym.
The Hawks leave the Brockport Invitational at 3-5 overall, but their performance on Saturday showed continued growth. Hilbert played nine total sets today taking a strong SUNY Morrisville team to five and stealing a set from a disciplined Brockport lineup.
The Hawks were led by dynamic play from
Jenna Revak,
Michaela Rice,
Lindsay Madigan,
Jade Schiller, and
Jessee Jonathan, all of whom posted key stats across both matches. Schiller, in particular, totaled 37 digs and 6 aces across the two matches.
Match 1 Recap: SUNY Morrisville 3, Hilbert 2
Set Scores: 22-25, 25-22, 22-25, 25-20, 15-12
Hilbert came out strong in their first match of the day, pushing a tough SUNY Morrisville squad to five sets. The Hawks claimed the opening and third sets but couldn't hold off the Mustangs in a tightly contested finale.
Stat Leaders:
Despite being edged in hitting percentage (.092 to .057), Hilbert's 77 digs and 10 service aces kept them in every set, highlighting their defensive intensity and fight.
Match 2 Recap: SUNY Brockport 3, Hilbert 1
Set Scores: 25-17, 26-28, 25-18, 25-17
Hilbert (3-5) returned to the court 30 minutes later to face a strong SUNY Brockport squad. After dropping the first set, the Hawks responded with a thrilling 28-26 second-set win — their lone set victory of the match — before the Golden Eagles regrouped to close out the final two sets with efficient offense.
Stat Leaders:
- Lindsay Madigan led with 11 kills and added 10 assists in a standout two-way effort.
- Michaela Rice continued her strong day with 8 kills and 2 aces.
- Jade Schiller anchored the back row with a match-high 20 digs, while also contributing 3 aces.
- Jessee Jonathan dished out 18 assists and recorded 12 digs.
Despite the result, Hilbert posted 7 service aces and saw consistent contributions from both veterans and underclassmen. Brockport's .190 hitting percentage and dominance at the net (11 blocks) proved to be the difference.
Hilbert returns to the friendly confines of the Hafner Recreation Center for their next non-conference contest against Alfred University September 10th.
