HAMBURG, N.Y. – Hilbert College Women's Volleyball jumped out early in the non-conference match to Alfred University, but the Hawks ultimately fell in four sets to the visiting Saxons.
Hilbert captured the first set which featured multiple runs by both teams, but they couldn't sustain the momentum, dropping the match by set scores of 25-18, 17-25, 23-25, 19-25.
With the loss, Hilbert moves to 3-6 on the season, while Alfred picks up its first win to improve to 1-7.
The White and Royal thrilled the home crowd in the opening set, hitting an impressive .480 as a team behind the offensive firepower of
Jenna Revak and
Molly McKinnon. Hilbert controlled the tempo and limited errors to take the set convincingly, 25-18.
However, Alfred responded with renewed intensity, flipping the script in the second set. Hilbert struggled to find rhythm offensively, managing just six kills against seven errors for a -.037 hitting percentage. Alfred capitalized on the miscues to take the second set 25-17.
The third set was the most tightly contested of the night, with both teams trading points throughout. Hilbert remained within striking distance, but Alfred pulled ahead in the final moments to secure a narrow 25-23 win and swing the match momentum decisively in their favor.
Hilbert took an early 5-0 lead in the fourth set yet found themselves playing catch up after the Saxons scored seven unanswered points. Hawks couldn't get their offensive transition game going to match Alfred's efficient attack in the fourth set, falling 25-19.
