Softball Splits Season Opening Double Header in Myrtle Beach

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Hilbert College Softball opened its 2025 season this afternoon at the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic with games against Rosemont College and Cedar Crest College. Both contests featured one-sided results as the Hawks comfortably handled the Ravens in game one, before suffering a setback against the Falcons in the second game of the day.

Game One: Hilbert 10 – Rosemont College 1
Game Two: Hilbert 4 – Cedar Crest College 15

Game One:
  • After Kailey Stolowski sent the Rosemont offense down in order in the top of the first, the Hilbert offense got to work in the bottom of the frame to open up an early advantage. Kaitlin Stolowski singled and later came around to score on an error, before Ava Higgins recorded an RBI in her first collegiate at-bat on a sac fly that scored Emily Lacki to give Hilbert a 2-0 lead after one inning.
  • With both Stolowskis in scoring position in the bottom of the second, Emily Lacki singled to double the Hilbert lead and make it a 4-0 game. The Hawks would continue the two run per inning pace in the third when Jazlynn Soliz and Madison Esmond each singled to record their first RBIs in the Royal and White and make it a six-run advantage for Hilbert heading into the fourth inning.
  • With Kailey Stolowski still cruising in the circle, the Hawks set up an early end to the contest with four more runs in the bottom of the fourth to open up a 10-0 lead. Alana Yadov and Samantha Heppel each doubled to bring in a run, before Kailey Stolowski's double scored a pair to round out the Hilbert scoring.
  • Rosemont removed their zero from the scoreboard in the top of the fifth on an RBI triple, but the game concluded shortly after with the Hawks holding a 10-1 advantage.

Lacki (2-2, two runs scored), Heppel (1-3, two runs scored), and Kailey Stolowski (3-3, one run scored) each recorded multiple RBIs in the big offensive showing, while Kaitlin Stolowski and Jazlynn Soliz each chipped in with a pair of hits.

Kailey Stolowski went the distance in the circle for the Hawks, allowing just three hits and the lone run, while fanning four batters.

Game Two:
  • The teams traded runs in the first inning as Emily Lacki's RBI single in the bottom of the frame scored Madison Esmond to tie the score at 1-1, before a scoreless second inning sent the game into the third still deadlocked at one.
  • Cedar Crest regained its lead with the lone third-inning run on a bases loaded walk, and the Falcons carried the offense into their next two frames as they used fourteen consecutive runs in a three inning span to gain control of the game. A nine-run fourth was followed by a four-run fifth inning to give Cedar Crest a convincing 15-1 advantage.
  • Hilbert got the offense going late in the game as Mackenzie Catan scored a pair of Hawks on a fielder's choice and Morgan Ebert single to bring in a run, but the lead of the Falcons proved to be too much to overcome in the 15-4 defeat.

Alana Yadov, Kailey Stolowski, and Kimberly Bentley split the game in the circle with the trio combining for seven strikeouts over five innings of work.

At the plate, Lacki, Catan, and Ebert provided the runs for the Hawks while seven different players recorded a hit.
