Softball Opens Conference Play with Split Against Greensburg

GREENSBURG, PA – Hilbert College Softball opened Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference play this afternoon when the team traveled to take on Pitt-Greensburg in a doubleheader.

The Bobcats took a 4-0 victory in game one, before the Hawks evened the season series with a 4-1 win of their own in game two.

Game One: Hilbert 0 – Pitt-Greensburg 4
Game Two: Hilbert 4 – Pitt-Greensburg 1

Game One:
  • The teams combined for three scoreless innings to start the contest as Kailey Stolowski (5 IP, 1 ER, 6 SO) and her Bobcat counterpart in the circle, Autumn Powell, shut down any offense early in this one.
  • Emily Lacki recorded the first Hilbert hit in the top of the fourth, but the Hawks remained scoreless after a strikeout ended the frame. In the bottom half of the inning, Greensburg opened the scoring as a pair of doubles made it 1-0 after four innings.
  • The hosts would double the lead in the fifth after a leadoff triple led to a run, before two more Bobcat runs in the bottom of the sixth made it a 4-0 game.
  • The Hawks reached base five times in the contest, including a walk and two singles to load the bases in the top of the sixth, but all five Hilbert baserunners would be left on base in the contest as the Bobcats took game one 4-0.
Game Two:
  • After a scoreless outing in game one, the Hilbert offense wasted no time removing the zero from the scoreboard to begin game two. Kaitlin Stolowski singled before back-to-back doubles from Samantha Heppel and Alana Yadov gave the Hawks an early 2-0 advantage.
  • In the circle, Yadov shut down the Greensburg offense to preserve the lead, as she recorded four strikeouts in as many scoreless innings to open her outing.
  • After two empty frames, the Hilbert offense got back to work in the top of the fourth to double the lead. With the bases loaded, Kaitlin Stolowski singled to score Emma Gionta and Grace Schwarzkopf to send Yadov back on the mound with a 4-0 lead.
  • The four-run cushion would be plenty for Yadov, as a sixth inning Bobcat run would be the lone scoring for the hosts as the Hilbert sophomore pitcher went the distance, striking out seven batters to earn the first conference win of the year for the Hawks.
Up Next

The Hawks return to action tomorrow, March 30th as the team hosts Keuka College at Frontier High School for the first home game of the season for Hilbert. First pitch of game one is set for 12 pm.
