HAMBURG, NY – Hilbert College Softball hosted Keuka College this afternoon for a non-conference matchup between the Hawks and the Wolves. Hilbert forced Keuka into mistakes early, before using timely pitching and hitting to come from behind and earn an entertaining 6-5 victory in the team's first home game of 2025.
Stephanie Mirras went 3.1 innings to earn the win in her first career appearance in the circle. The freshman pitcher struck out three Wolves in her scoreless outing.
Samantha Heppel and
Kailey Stolowski each recorded a pair of hits, while Stolowski joined
Ava Higgins as the only Hawks to drive in a run in the game.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Hilbert opened the scoring in the bottom of the first when Kaitlin Stolowski took advantage of a passed ball to give the Hawks an early 1-0 advantage.
- After a scoreless second inning by both teams, the third inning saw seven total runs as a four-run effort by the Wolves, followed by three Hilbert runs off Keuka errors sent the game into the fourth knotted at four.
- Keuka briefly took a one-run lead with after scoring once in the top of the fourth, but Kailey Stolowski's RBI single scored Heppel to make it 5-5.
- After a scoreless fifth, Mirras shut down the Wolves in the top of the sixth to set up the Hilbert offense to take a late lead. With a runner in scoring position, Ava Higgins stepped up to the plate and delivered a two-out, pinch-hit, go-ahead single to score Brooke Feliciano and send the game into the final frame with the Hawks up 6-5.
- Keuka looked to tie the game with a two-out double, but Kailey Stolowski's strikeout ended the contest to give the Hawks the win.
