HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Hawks were slow to wake up this morning in the early 11 am start.  Altoona recorded 17 of their points off kills (.400), aces and blocks while the Hawks collected seven points off five kills, and two service aces.
  • Hilbert responded with four blocks in the second set, recorded 16 kills, led by Brad Converse and Tyler Hassell while Michael Pozzuto and Hassell shared two blocks in the extra serves victory.
  • The Hawks confidence grew stronger in the third set with Converse and Hasell hitting deep shots, or dinks over the blocks. George Muriel, Hassell and Justin Veal each scored solo blocks while Veal, Chris Smith and Pozzuto roamed the net for a combined three block assists in the largest margin of victory (25-16).
  • Altoona was still unable to secure blocks in the fourth set but pulled out the 25-20 win off a slim six-kill margin.
  • The Hawks held on for the fifth set win after scoring just eight points (six kills, one ace, one block) while the Lions recorded 10 kills, one aces but gave away six points off service errors in the loss.
 BY THE NUMBERS
  • Michael Pozzuto (21 assists/five kills) was the x-factor shifting to the quarterback in the second –> fourth sets which gave the Hawks another hitting weapon in George Muriel.
  • Tyler Hassell was on fire recording 16 kills without a hitting error, one block solo and two block assists in addition to one service ace.  Brad Converse added 12 kills and led the Hawks with 16 digs.
  • Jacob Sehn was all over the floor giving defensive support with 14 digs and George Muriel matched Sehn with 14 digs, while adding 22 assists, three block assists and one solo block.
