Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse | | Kara Rehbaum

Men's Lacrosse Finishes Strong in 8-3 Win

BRYN ATHYN, Pa.  – It took three quarters for the Hilbert men's lacrosse team to see results on the scoreboard.  The Hawks used a big fourth quarter to pull away from Bryn Aythn in an 8-3 non-conference win on the road.

Joey DiMaria paced the Hawks with three goals and an assist while Jason Sage recorded three goals and Kristopher Newman finished with a pair.

Taivaughn Roach earned game high honors with 10 ground balls that were tracked after winning 8-of-15 face offs.

The Hawks, on video, dominated the game physically and emotionally from start to finish and improved to 2-1 on the year.

The Hawks defensive core worked extremely well together the entire game, limiting the hosts from finding their routes and passing angles.  They kept them away from the goal area and started the clears with success.  Unfortunately, the statistics provided do not reflect the domination by the defense today.

Coach Mike Carbery was very proud of this year's team's performance. "They played through checks and didn't get frustrated. This year's team was disciplined in everything they did today, and it was a nice to see them put it all together in the fourth quarter."

HOW IT HAPPENED

After Kristopher Newman powered his way to the crease, the Hawks took the lead just two-and-a half minutes into the game.

Bryn Athyn stacked two goals together over a 51-second period late in the first quarter and finished their offensive success with 21-seconds left in the first quarter.

Jason Sage (assist by Joey DiMaria) evened the score a 2-2 with one minute remaining in the 1st quarter and after a scoreless second quarter, Sage broke the seal in the third, with the game-tying score at 4:27.

The Hawks took the field in the fourth quarter with purpose and exploded with shots from different angles and distances from the goal.

DiMaria drove in hard to the crease scoring back-to-back hits, and Sage worked his way to an opening as they doubled BAC on the scoreboard.

DiMaria scored his hat trick in the quarter by unleashing a shot well outside defensive coverage and Newman bounced off of and spun around defenders to find space for his second goal with just under two minutes remaining.
