Griffin Miller Sets New Program Career Record with 22 Saves

HAMBURG, N.Y.  – Hilbert College Men's Lacrosse dropped a 15-3 non-conference loss to SUNY Poly in the Hawks home opener at Saint Francis High School
 
Senior goalie Griffin Miller became the program leader in saves after recording 22 stops today.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • After making 11 saves through the first 30 minutes, Griffin Miller continued with his cat-like reflexes through the second half making eleven more stops to the final horn.
  • Ty Franko and Mason Shehadi each finished with two caused turnovers while Ethan Barlow and Taivaughn Roach scooped four ground balls each.
  • Barlow recorded two points, assisting on Joey DiMaria's goal while scoring his second of the season in the third quarter. Kristopher Newman found the back of the net off a feed by Bryan Jasrzab with just over five minutes remaining in the game.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After seven minutes of scoreless action, the Wildcats built a 2-1 lead by the start of the second quarter.
  • Poly poured in four more hits in the second session and added three more at the start of the third quarter before Hilbert responded with and unassisted goal with four minutes remaining.
  • The visitors stacked four more scores together ahead of Newman's gutsy finish with just over five minutes left in the game.
GAME NOTES
  • Poly outmatched the Hawks in shots, ground balls, faceoff wins, turnovers and clears while the Hawks held the Wildcats scoreless on four man-up goal opportunities.
  • Miller made history with 1:05 left in the fourth quarter when he collected his 449th career save at Hilbert College. 
  • Even though 22 saves is an impressive stat line, Miller previously established his personal single game record of 28 saves in 2023.

Hilbert hit the road this weekend when they travel to Bryn Athyn College for a 1 pm faceoff March 15th.
