Converse Records 1,000th Career Point at Home

 HAMBURG, N.Y. - Hilbert College Men's Volleyball hosted their second trimatch series today in the Hafner Recreation Center.
 
The Hawks dropped two very competitive matches to Wilkes University (3-2) and SUNY Potsdam (3-1) while SUNY Potsdam swept their opponents after beating Wilkes in straight sets.
 
Senior Brad Converse continues to climb the Hilbert Volleyball career list, moving ahead of his assistant coach Korey Schwab

Converse recorded his 1,000th career point just four kills into the nightcap game against SUNY Potsdam, and by the end of the second match, he moved into 2nd place in Points (1,010.5), and Kills (869).  Earlier this year he became the program leader in service aces while also making noise in attack attempts, digs, and block assists.

NEWS and NOTES
 
Converse led Hawks today over nine sets with 28 kills (3.11/set), and three service aces while Tyler Hassell recorded 22 kills, and eight total blocks.  Nikolas D'Andrea led with .333 attack percent after collecting 18 kills and Justin Veal was very active at the net leading with four block solos and three block assists in addition to 11 kills.
 
Michael Pozzuto served as the team's setter today and dished 8.33 assists per set (75) along with two service aces and 24 digs.  Jacob Sehn finished with a team-best 28 digs (3.11/set) but was the primary target on serve receive.

11:00 AM vs Wilkes
 
Hilbert extended the match twice against Wilkes, taking the second and third sets to extra serves. The Hawks finished the three-set match recording 57 points off 45 kills (21 errors) and a .175 attack percentage while the Colonels collected 58 kills (30 errors) with a .166 attack performance. Hilbert recorded nine blocks, three service aces, 42 assists and 58 digs; Wilkes recorded 12 service aces over the five sets. 3:00 PM vs SUNY Poly
 
Hilbert had their chances to take the second set against the Bears as the Hawks held a 14-5 advantage yet.SUNY Potsdam rallied late for the 28-26 win.  The third set started the same way, with the Hawks building a decent lead only to have the Bears catch-up and knot the game at 26-all.  D'Andrea recorded a kill and then Veal made a block solo for the 28-26 win.  The Hawks finished the four-set match recording 58 points off 46 kills (24 errors) and a .159 attack percentage while the Bears collected 59 kills (28 errors) with a .214 attack performance along with seven service aces. Hilbert recorded seven blocks, five service aces, 43 assists and 48 digs. 
  • Converse (8 digs) and Hassell (2 blocks) reached for 13 and 11 kills respectively. D'Andrea added eight kills, two aces and two blocks.
  • Veal continued his efforts at the net, adding four block solos to his career in addition to nine kills (.438), and Sehn chipped in 13 digs as did Pozzuto (39 assists). 
UP NEXT

Hilbert (7-9) has a nice break from competition.  The Hawks don't play again until March 19th when they face Houghton University for the third time, but each program's first Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference contest against each other in the Hafner Recreation Center.
