HOW IT HAPPENED
- Hilbert was on fire in the first half, connecting on six of 13 from beyond the arc. Ellis and Boies combined for five 3-pointers and Ellis, Morse and Briggs collected 14 of the team's 23 rebounds.
- The Hawks ran their offense and found the extra pass for an open shot on the perimeter or short jumper in the lane. But after building a 28-16 lead, the Hawks went cold from the floor.
- Greensburg pulled within one point before Boies sank a pair from the charity stripe which started another Hilbert run. Ellis and Moore each struck from outside the arc before the break which gave the hosts a six-point cushion heading to the locker room (42-36).
- The first three minutes of the second half was a track meet. After the Bobcats set a 42-42 score, Ronnie Lewis scored in the paint and Ellis drilled another 3, giving the Hawks a 47-44 lead just five minutes into the period.
- Greensburg took their first lead at 13:05, and both teams played through eight lead changes until Moore scored off a four-point play with 5:03 remaining.
- Both teams sifted to zone defense and Hilbert responded with confidence from the perimeter even as the Hawks' inside game was being shut down with collapsing defense.
- Boies stretched it to six points with another one of his deep makes and things looked great after Ellis scored another shot beyond the arc (73-68) with 2:48.
- Every time Hilbert responded with a score, Greensburg drove to the rim or found wide open teammates under the hoop for easy buckets against the Hawks' zone.
- Greensburg, with 10 seconds remaining, hit a 3-pointer making it a one-point game. Hilbert missed the front end of a 1 and 1 which allowed the Bobcats to call a timeout with five seconds remaining. The Hawks made a quick foul forcing Greensburg to inbound from the sideline with 0:03 on the clock.
- The Bobcats lobbed the ball to the opposite block and their player was able to leap higher, grab the ball, land and take off for a short jumper, then track the rebound for a tip-in just prior to the horn.
GAME NOTES
- Greensburg outscored Hilbert 60-28 points in the paint, 29-11 in fast break points and held a 40-38 edge in rebounds.
