CRESSON, PA. — Hilbert Men's Basketball improved to 2-0 in the AMCC this afternoon with a come-from-behind road victory against Mount Aloysius. After trailing by six points at the break, the Hawks used a 17-point advantage in the second half to take down the Mounties, 77-66 for the team's eighth-consecutive victory.
Larry Morse (16 points and ten rebounds) and
Jayden Montgomery (16 points, seven assists, four rebounds, three steals) led a balanced offensive effort that saw
Ne'Sean Fowlks and
Jaden Mitchell each contribute double-digit scoring outputs with 15 and twelve points, respectively.
The Mounties set the tone early, jumping out to 12-2 advantage inside the game's first five minutes. Hilbert slowly chipped away, cutting the lead to one point twice on buckets from Morse and Mitchell, but the hosts used a trio of shots from deep late in the half, including one at the buzzer, to lead 37-31 after 20 minutes of play.
Following another make from beyond the line to open the second half from the Mounties, the Hawks rattled off ten straight points to take a 41-40 lead, their first of the contest. Fowlks led the way with six points in this span, including a momentum-swinging put-back dunk.
The next five minutes saw the teams trade buckets leading to 51-all score at the halfway point of the second half. However, another ten-point swing (11-1) extended a two-point lead into a twelve-point advantage for Hilbert with less than four minutes remaining in the contest.
Mount Aloysius connected twice from deep in the final three minutes, but consistent scoring from Morse and Montgomery down the stretched closed out the conference win for the Hawks.
