Women's Hockey Rallies Late to Tie Against MCLA

NORTH ADAMS, MA – Hilbert College Women's Hockey wrapped up an unbeaten weekend this evening with a 2-2 tie against Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA). After trailing 2-0 late in the contest, the Hawks erased a two-goal deficit with a pair of goals in a 49-second span late in the third period to force a scoreless overtime.

MCLA controlled much of the play in the opening period, outshooting Hilbert 21-2 in the frame. Following nine saves to open the game by Hilbert goaltender Brook Thompson, the hosts opened the scoring midway through the first period. Thompson made eleven more stops in the frame to keep it 1-0 after 20 minutes.

The middle period saw offense on both ends, with Thompson making 22 saves and the Hawks firing seven shots on net, but the lone goal of the frame belonged to the Trailblazers as MCLA doubled its' lead late in the period.

After a scoreless opening 15 minutes of the third period. Hilbert broke through on the power play at with 4:11 remaining when Victoria Battaglia buried her third goal of the season, finishing a feed from Alexis Cunningham and Amelia Murphy.

Just 49 seconds later, Hilbert struck again to even the score. Jacqueline Alaburda fired home the equalizer at 16:38 off an assist from Battaglia, sending the game into overtime tied at two.

Neither team found the back of the net during the five-minute overtime that saw Thompson add ten more saves to her 64-stop evening.

Following overtime, MCLA won the exhibition shootout.

Battaglia led the Hilbert offense with a goal and an assist, while Caitlin Conrad blocked seven shots defensively.

Following the holiday break, the Hawks resume play in the new year with a trip to take on Neumann University on January 2nd and 3rd.
