Hilbert Takes Mount Aloysius To Five Sets Before Falling in AMCC Action

HAMBURG, N.Y. – Hilbert Women's Volleyball put together one of its most competitive performances of the season on Saturday afternoon, taking first-place Mount Aloysius to five sets before falling just short, 3–2 (25–22, 26–24, 21–25, 21–25, 9–15), inside the Brad Hafner Recreation Center.

The Hawks are the only AMCC team to take two wins against the Mounties this fall.

With the loss, the Hawks move to 17–10 overall and 4–3 in league), while the Mounties improve to 19–6 overall and remain undefeated in league play at 7–0.

Hilbert opened the match with energy and precision, taking the first two sets behind a steady offensive rhythm and sharp defense. The Hawks hit .250 in the opening set and rallied from a mid-set deficit to capture a 25–22 win.

In the second frame, Hilbert's serving pressure and clutch play from Michaela Rice, Riley O'Neill, Jazzelle McLean and Lindsay Madigan helped the team edge out a 26–24 victory.  Jade Schiller passed the ball well on serve receive and off attack returns to start strong transitions which challenged the Mounties.

Mount Aloysius responded in the third set, finding offensive consistency through Molly Richards, who finished with a match-high 22 kills and 34 digs, and Mackenzie Barr, who recorded 19 kills. The Mounties overcame early Hilbert leads in both the third and fourth sets, winning 25–21 and 25–21 to force a decisive fifth.

In the final set, Mount Aloysius carried its momentum, hitting .320 to Hilbert's .043, and pulled away late to secure the match with a 15–9 decision.

Hilbert's defense was outstanding throughout the contest, highlighted by Jade Schiller's 26 digs and Molly McKinnon's 20 digs. The Hawks recorded 96 total digs and four blocks, showing strong back-row coverage against a potent Mountie offense.

Setter Jessee Jonathan paced the offense with 24 assists and led the team at the service line with three aces, while middle blocker Lezly McComber added three blocks to anchor the net defense.

Up Next

The Hawks have two games remaining in their regular season schedule.  Hilbert will travel to SUNY Fredonia November 5 for a 7 pm non-conference contest before they conclude their season at Carlow University in AMCC action November 8th.

Things look good for the Hawks as they head to the 2025 AMCC Women's Volleyball postseason tournament.  The Hawks currently sit in 4th place but they will have to wait until the results stream in from this week's games to see whether they will host a First Round game November 12th or if they will travel.
