HAMBURG, N.Y. – Hilbert College Women's Hockey battled Keene State this afternoon in the second matchup between the Hawks and Owls in as many days. Despite a strong defensive effort, Hilbert fell to 0-2 on the young season with a 1-0 loss.
Junior goaltender
Brook Thompson was fantastic for the Hawks in between the pipes, as she stopped 63 of 64 shots for a .984 save percentage on the afternoon. Hilbert kept Keene State off the board for more than two periods, with Thompson turning away several high-quality scoring chances to keep the contest tight.
The game's only goal came at the 7:31 mark of the third period, when Keene State's Ellie Patrick barely squeaked the puck by Thompson to open the scoring.
On offense, Hilbert generated several strong scoring opportunities, but the Hawks were unable to solve Keene State goaltender Ai Chung, who finished with 14 saves to earn the shutout.
Kelsey Fuller fired four shots on goal, while her linemates
Victoria Battaglia and
Jacqueline Alaburda each recorded three shots.
Hilbert's penalty kill was perfect throughout the afternoon, killing off all three Keene State powerplays. The Hawks' defensive unit blocked 18 total shots, led by
Caitlin Conrad with five.
