SCHENECTADY, N.Y. — Hilbert College Football continued Liberty League action this afternoon with a trip to take on Union College at Frank Bailey Field. Despite a strong second half, the Hawks fell 34-13 to the Garnet Chargers who remain undefeated in conference play.
After falling behind 24–0 at halftime, the Hawks' defense provided the team with its first score of the game early in the fourth quarter. With the Hilbert defense up against its own endzone,
Da'von Cockrell stepped in front of a pass and returned it 94 yards for a touchdown, marking Cockrell's second pick-six of the season, and the longest play in program history.
Bryce Robinson tacked on the extra point to make it 31-7.
Later in the quarter,
Franklin McFadden capped a seven-play, 65-yard drive with a powerful 14-yard touchdown run, cutting the deficit to 34–13 with his first career score. McFadden took the pitch from quarterback
Darrion Montgomery to the edge, before cutting inside and lowering his shoulder on a Union defender on his way to the endzone.
Union (6–2, 5–0 Liberty League) controlled the tempo early, building a 31–0 lead through three quarters behind quarterback Patch Flanagan, who threw for two touchdowns.
Hilbert's ground attack led the way offensively, totaling 172 rushing yards on 47 attempts.
Christian Hamilton Jr. paced the Hawks with 65 yards on 9 carries, averaging 7.2 yards per rush.
Joseph Edick added 55 yards, and McFadden chipped in 21 yards and a score.
Defensively,
Zach Brown anchored the unit with 11 total tackles (5 solo, 6 assisted), while
Neven Dermady and
Scotty Winchell each added seven. Cockrell finished with five tackles, a tackle for loss, and the interception return touchdown.
Hilbert (0–8, 0–5) held the advantage in time of possession (30:40 to 29:20) and outscored Union 13-7 in the fourth quarter.

The Hawks return home next week for the team's final home game of the 2025 campaign. Hilbert will honor its seniors prior to the 12 pm kickoff against Hobart at St. Francis High School.
