ALFRED, N.Y. – Hilbert Volleyball earned a gritty five-set road win over Alfred State College (10-9, 0-2 AMCC) Wednesday night, improving to 2-1 in AMCC play after a back-and-forth battle that saw momentum swing throughout the evening.
The Hawks earned the program's first SET victory against the Pioneers since the 2014 season and their first match victory since 2013.
After taking the opening set 25-19, the Hawks struggled to find rhythm in the second, dropping it 18-25. The third set proved to be the turning point. In a dramatic frame featuring extended rallies and clutch plays on both sides, Hilbert edged out Alfred State 29-27 to regain the lead.
The Pioneers responded with a dominant fourth set, forcing a deciding fifth. But Hilbert regrouped and closed strong, securing the win 15-12 behind timely serving and tough defense.
