Men's Soccer Draws Alfred State at Home

HAMBURG, N.Y. — Hilbert College Men's Soccer played to a thrilling 3-3 draw against Alfred State on Tuesday afternoon on Hawk Field. Despite holding leads twice in the match, the Hawks were forced to settle for the tie in AMCC action.

Hilbert (4-5-2, 1-3-1 AMCC) opened the scoring late in the first half when Cam Murdie found the back of the net 36th minute to give the Hawks a 1-0 advantage. Stephen Winans worked the ball over to Murdie, who's shot deflected off a Pioneer defender and into the goal for the only tally of the game's opening 45 minutes.

The Hawks struck again just two minutes after the break as Carter Burke converted from the penalty spot, extending the lead to 2-0. Murdie was once again involved offensively, as the junior defender worked to draw the foul to set up Burke from 12 yards out.

However, Alfred State (5-2-6, 2-0-3 AMCC) responded with a pair of quick goals. Colin Martin scored in the 59th minute before Henry Leahy netted the equalizer two minutes later to bring the score to 2-2.

Hilbert reclaimed the lead in the 65th minute when Hamso Dagane fired the ball into the roof of the net off a great ball over the top from Kaleb O'Connor, but the Pioneers once again battled back. Leahy tallied his second of the day in the 80th minute to even the score at 3-3, where it would remain through the final whistle.

Burke led the Hawks with four shots (three on target), while goalkeeper Nikolas D'Andrea turned aside six saves in net. Hilbert totaled 11 shots with eight on goal, while Alfred State posted 23 shots, nine on frame.
