HAMBURG, N.Y. – Hilbert Volleyball secured a hard-fought 3-2 non-conference victory over La Roche University tonight at the Brad Hafner Recreation Center, improving their record to 13-7 on the season.
The Redhawks, who dropped to 3-9 this fall, couldn't control the Hawks who at times dominated in transition.
After starting the match with low energy in the 25-16 opening frame, Hilbert responded in the second set, ralling back with aggressive play and took the 25-19 win.
Hilbert played with confidence earning an impressive 25-14 third set victory, before the Hawks unraveled with hitting errors, service errors and receiving errors, falling 25-16 in the fourth.
Hilbert and La Roche traded points though the 8-point court and bench rotation, but it was the block assist by
Molly McKinnon and
Lezly McComber that broke open the final set (11-8) lifting the Hawks to victory.
- Senior Molly McKinnon led the Hawks offensively with 14 kills and 3 aces, while teammates Jenna Revak and McKenna Rice contributed 11 and 10 kills respectively.
- Lindsay Madigan delivered a standout performance with 5 aces and 21 assists, sharing playmaking duties with Jessee Jonathan, who also recorded 21 assists.
- Jade Schiller anchored the defense with 18 digs, complemented by Revak and McKinnon with 17 digs apiece.
Hilbert's balanced attack and solid defensive effort were key to overcoming La Roche's aggressive play, highlighted by Kalli Grine's 20 kills and 4 blocks for the Redhawks.
With this victory, Hilbert sets a positive tone heading into the AMCC conference schedule as they open league play next Tuesday, October 7
th at Penn State Behrend.
