ERIE, Pa. – Hilbert College Men's Volleyball went 2-0 on day two of the AMCC vs PAC league volleyball games hosted by Penn State Behrend.
The Hawks swept the Geneva Golden Tornadoes (3-0) in the mid-day match and then outlasted Chatham University Cougars (3-2) in the late afternoon game.
At the time of this release, the AMCC League (Penn State Behrend/Penn State Altoona and Hilbert) hold a 6-2 record against the three teams from the PAC League (Chatham/Geneva/Thiel).

NEWS and NOTES
^at the time of this release, Thiel College has a 2-0 lead over Penn State Behrend after winning the second set 29-27. Earlier this morning, Penn State Behrend dropped an exciting five-set match to Chaham. The Lions won the first set easily (25-12) before they outlasted the PAC in a marathon set (38-36) only to drop the next three sets (19-25, 19-25) and the deciding in overtime (16-14)
2 pm vs Geneva Golden Tornadoes
- Hilbert finished the three-set match with 31 kills (10 errors) and a .300 attack percent while the Golden Tornadoes finished with 21 kills (25 errors) and a -.056 percent.
- The Hawks collected 10 blocks, 12 service aces, 29 assists and 21 digs.
- Freshman Justin Veal led the Hawks with eight kills with only one hitting error (.538) and added two solo blocks while Tyler Hassell matched Veal's effort at the net with three blocks (one solo), and five kills (.500). Brad Converse chipped in seven kills (.313), two service aces.
- Nikolas D'Andrea scored seven service aces and George Muriel found his way to 23 of the team's 29 assists while sharing team-high four digs with Michael Pozzuto.
4 pm Chatham Cougars
- Hilbert finished the five-set match with 48 kills (30 errors) and a .151 attack percent while the Cougars collected 44 kills (29 errors) and a .123 percent.
- The Hawks recorded 13 blocks, five service aces, 42 assists, and 36 digs. The Cougars matched Hilbert in assists and digs but posted eight service aces and only seven blocks
- Tyler Hassell exploded for a career-high 15 kills (.393) while Nikolas D'Andrea and Brad Converse each added seven kills off 22 swings. D'Andrea once again led with three aces.
- George Muriel quarterbacked the Hawks with 37 assists, led with 11 digs and four solo blocks. Justin Veal was credited with three solos and one block assist along with nine kills.
UP NEXT
Hilbert hits the road again next week with a Wednesday, January 29th non-conference match against a new AMCC foe, Houghton University. The Hawks and Highlanders will battle in a 7pm match.
