Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey | | Andrew Loveless

Hawks Fall on the Road to Keene State

KEENE, NH –Hilbert College Women's Hockey played a hard-fought game against the Keene State Owls this evening, but four specials-teams goals by the hosts led to a 6-1 defeat for the Hawks.

Freshman winger Kelsey Fuller scored her second goal in as many games, while Brook Thompson made 42 saves in between the pipes for Hilbert.

The first period looked like it would end how it began on the scoreboard after Thompson stopped the first 14 shots of the game, but a late powerplay goal for the Owls broke the ice with 45 seconds left in the frame.

After breaking the ice in the first, Keene added to the offense in the second period with a four-goal effort. An even strength tally 4:32 into the frame doubled the lead, before a shorthanded goal just over halfway into the period made it 3-0.

However, with the Hawks still on the powerplay, Fuller's backhand shot found the back of the net just 15 seconds later to cut the lead to 3-1.

Following the Fuller goal, the Owls struck both shorthanded, and on the power play before the end of the period to take a 5-1 advantage into the final period.

The game's final 20 minutes saw the offense slow down, as the teams combined for just 11 shots in the period. Keene recorded the lone goal of the frame, 2:59 in, before shutting down the offense of Hilbert and denying any chance of a comeback.

  • After scoring the first goal of her career last time out, Fuller now has goals in back-to-back games.
  • Anna Faulkner continues to play a 200-foot game for the Hawks, as the sophomore recorded six blocked shots, three shots on goal, and 13 face off wins.
