HAMBURG, N.Y. – Hilbert College Men's Basketball, after playing point-for-point with La Roche the first 25 minutes of game, allowed the Redhawks to go on an 8-point run which ultimate set the tone for the 80-60 defeat.
Hilbert dropped their second consecutive Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference contest this week as they slipped to 3-3 in league standings and 10-5 overall.
HIGHLIGHTS
Nathan Moore kept the Hawks in the game the first half, hitting 4-of-7 3-pointers to lead all scorers with 12 points at the break. Moore and
Larry Morse matched game-high honors with 15 points each by the final horn, and Morse led the Hawks with eight rebounds.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Hilbert and La Roche traded hoops most of the first half. Each team knotted the score eight times and took a lead 11 times which created 16 tie scores and 22 lead changes over the course of the first 17 minutes.
- Nathan Moore landed timely 3-pointers over the course of the first 11 minutes and Quran Briggs drilled the final Hilbert deep shot at 2:48 to set a 30-30 score.
- Hilbert turned the ball over during two of their final three possessions and headed to the locker room down 35-32.
- After Morse scored in the paint, Briggs chipped in four straight points and Ellis added two more at the foul line which gave Hilbert a 41-37 advantage.
- Three straight Hilbert turnovers against pressure shifted the momentum to La Roche but Moore hit another clutch 3-pointer and Morse found room in the lane to jump back on top 46-45 at 13:45.
- La Roche hit a pair beyond the arc and scored a fastbreak layup off another Hilbert turnover which ultimately was the game-changer setting the seven-point spread. The Redhawks continued to roll with another 9-0 run and never looked back.
GAME NOTES
- Quran Briggs chipped in nine points, hitting 4-of-5 at the charity stripe and Shaheem Ellis added eight points after making all four of his free throw attempts.
- Hilbert finished the game hitting 42.9 from the field, made six 3-pointers and went 12-of-15 at the foul line while La Roche improved their shooting in the second half to 60% and finished hitting 50% for the game. They added nine 3-pointers and made 11-of-14 at the stripe.
- Both teams finished with 10 offensive rebounds but the Hawks earned almost half of those off dead ball rebounds.
- Hilbert committed 18 turnovers which La Roche flipped into 15 points off turnovers. Many of their scores were in the second half as they outscored the Hawks 22-16 in the paint and 19-5 in fast break points for the game.
