BEVERLY, Ma. – Hilbert Football traveled to #14 ranked (according to the latest AFCA Poll) Endicott Gulls this afternoon in the second ever meeting between the squads. The hosting Gulls used a consistent offensive attack, with two touchdowns in each quarter, to earn a decisive victory over the Hawks for a second consecutive year.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After the Hawks were unable to put points on the board in the game's first possession, Endicott got on the board in their first turn with the ball. A short punt set up the Gulls just outside the redzone of the Hawks, and a 22-yard pass gave the offense first and goal from the Hilbert five-yard line. However, an
Evan Willett tackle for loss two yards behind the line of scrimmage, and a pair of incomplete passes forced the Gulls to settle for a short field goal to open the scoring.
A fumble halted the next Hawks' possession and set up Endicott with excellent field position once again. This time, the Gulls wasted no time and found the endzone on their first play for the 10-0 advantage.
One more first quarter trip to the endzone, and a pair of second quarter scores saw Endicott take a 31-0 lead into the locker room.
The offense of the Gulls picked up right where they left off when the second half began, adding another touchdown just 48 seconds into the third quarter. Endicott found the endzone once more in the quarter, going 57 yards on six plays after Hilbert punted following their first possession of the half.
A long, 77-yard scoring drive, and a touchdown after another drive began in Hilbert territory represented the points in the fourth quarter as the Gulls added 14 more points to end the game with a 58-0 victory.
GAME NOTES
- Jon Whitaker was 2-2 for 39 yards for the Hawks' first pass attempts and completions on the year. Nicholas West was on the receiving end of each Whitaker pass.
