BUFFALO, N.Y. – Hilbert Football made the short trip to Coyer Field yesterday for a non-conference contest against the Buffalo State Bengals. A balanced rushing and passing attack carried the Bengals to a 42-6 victory over the Hawks.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After a Hilbert opening possession punt, Buffalo State found the endzone on their first three drives of the game unanswered to jump out to an early 21-0 advantage. A pair of short passing touchdowns, and a six-yard rush put the points on the board for the hosts.
Right before the end of the first half,
Evan Willett fell on a Bengal fumble to set up the Hilbert offense in the redzone looking for their first points of the season. A 14-yard defensive pass interference penalty set up a
Mike Hanlon two-yard score to get the Hawks on the board. A failed two-point conversion made it 21-6 heading into the break.
Buffalo State's first two drives in the second half each ended with seven points as the Bengals extended their lead to 35-6. Both of Hilbert's drives in the third quarter ended in punts to send the game to the final quarter 35-6.
A long Buffalo State scoring drive took up much of the fourth quarter as the Bengals capped off the scoring for the game with a 24-yard passing touchdown and an extra point to complete the 42-6 non-conference win.
