Volleyball Goes 0-2 To Close Tournament

BLUFFTON, OH – The Hilbert College Women's Volleyball team concluded their final two matches on day 2 at the Sommer Center Spiketacular hosted by Bluffton University.

The Hawks grabbed one set in the 3-1 loss to Wilmington in the opening match and then fell in straight sets to Denison at the end of the tournament.

HOW IT HAPPENED, WILMINGTON
  • Wilmington used an 8-point run (20-6) to pull away with the opening set victory
  • Hilbert kept it a 3-point set (12-15) until Wilmington stretched their lead to seven points and the win in the second set.
  • The Hawks reversed gear in the third set and exploded taking a 10-2 lead early and stretched it to 18-10.  Wilmington made things interesting pulling within one point (23-22) but the Hawks recorded back-to-back kills for the win.
  • Hilbert kept the fourth set close, trailing by three (8-11) found themselves down by eight yet pulled within four (16-20) before falling in the final set.
 Jenna Revak recorded a double double with 10 kills and 11 digs while Molley McKinnon led with 12 kills (9 digs) and Natalie Ruhlmann led with 17 digs.  Elenor Rybicki added 16 digs and Jessee Jonathan posted 23 assists and 13 digs.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED, DENISON
  • Denison took a 7-1 lead and pulled away with a 10-point spread multiple times in the opening set.
  • The Hawks, trailing 19-5, stacked five points together to pull within 10 points but were unable to recover in the second set.
  • Momentum stayed in Denison's favor in the third set as they took the match for the win.
Revak and McKinnon each led with three kills as the team recorded just 16 through three sets.  Jade Schiller led with seven digs, and Michaela Rice and McKinnon were each credited with a solo block.

UP NEXT

The 1-7 Hawks continue as road warriors this week.  They will travel for a rematch against Houghton University September 17 before they head to another two-day tournament in Oswego, NY.
