KEUKA PARK, N.Y. – The Hilbert College Women's Volleyball team continued play at the Keuka Invitational this afternoon with a match against SUNY Fredonia. The Blue Devils took the first two sets before the Hawks took the third set 25-21. The comeback effort would fall short with a 25-15 Fredonia victory in the third set to take the match 3-1.
 
THE BASICS

HOW IT HAPPENED  

• Hilbert held multiple multi-point advantages early in the first set, including a 15-10 lead after winning five straight points. The Blue Devils stormed back, winning eight of the next eleven points to knot the set at 18 all. The teams split the next four points making it 20-20, but it was all Fredonia after that as the Blue Devils took five of the next six points for the 25-21 first set win. 

• The squads traded points early in the second set leading to a 6-6 score after twelve points. However, five straight Fredonia points made it 11-6. Besides kills from Lynndee Ickes, Emily Garnett and Molly McKinnon, the Blue Devils ran away with the rest of the set, taking it 25-12 to hold a 2-0 advantage in the match.

• With their backs against the wall, the Hawks came out swinging in the third set with early kills from Katie Kociszewski (2) and Jenna Revak for a 4-2 lead. After some back-and-forth action, Fredonia came withing one point making it 9-8, but kills from McKenna Rice and McKinnon re-upped the Hawks' lead. Another Revak kill and two more kills from Rice made it 18-13 to give Hilbert a comfortable advantage. Kills by McKinnon, Rice, Kociszewski, and Ickes, a service ace from Mackenzie Mitchell, and a pair of attack errors from the Blue Devils wrapped up the set for Hilbert to make it a 2-1 match.

• Fredonia came out in the third set looking to shut the door on a Hilbert comeback, flying out to a 7-3 lead. A service error and kills from Ickes and Rice made it 7-6, but four straight Blue Devil points restored the lead. Fredonia got nine of the game's next eleven points for a commanding 20-8 lead in the fourth set. Molly McKinnon grabbed a pair of kills late in the set, but the lead of Fredonia would be too much as they took the set 25-15 and the match 3-1.

• Molly McKinnon led the way for the Hawks in kills (7) with Lynndee Ickes and McKenna Rice (5 each) also chipping in at the net.  Natalie Ruhlmann continued to control the defensive side of the things for Hilbert with 14 digs while McKinnon tallied 10 digs to join her in double digits. Jessee Jonathan and Mackenzie Mitchell shared setting duties passing for 11 and 8 assists respectively.
