HAMBURG, N.Y. – Hilbert College Softball hosted Alfred State College this afternoon in an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference doubleheader. The teams traded big wins, as the Pioneers took game one 15-1 in five innings, and the Hawks ended game two after five innings with an 11-2 victory for the split.
Alfred scored multiple runs in each of the first four innings, including a seven-run fourth inning to cap off the decisive victory.
A four-run third inning, and seven-run fifth inning would be all the scoring the Hawks would need to end game two early with the win.
Game 1:
Alfred State's offense got going early and often in this one, grabbing a pair of runs in the top of the first for the 2-0 lead.
Samantha Heppel singled to score
Kaitlin Stolowski in the bottom half of the first to cut the lead in half and make it a 2-1 game after one inning.
The bats of the Pioneers continued to go to work, with back-to-back three-run frames in the second and third innings. Hilbert could not get much going on offense in this span, leading to an 8-1 Alfred State lead after three innings.
The offense kept coming for the visitors in the top of the fourth as they piled on seven more runs to double their lead and make it a 15-1 game.
The game concluded after a scoreless fifth inning due to the eight-run rule as the Pioneers held a 14 run advantage.
BY THE NUMBERS:
Game 2:
Alfred State matched their first inning from game one with two more first inning runs in the second game of the doubleheader for another early 2-0 lead.
Neither team would score again until a four-run third inning gave Hilbert their first lead of the day. RBIs from
Makenna Smith and
Victoria Hanley, and a pair of runs off Pioneer errors gave the Hawks a 4-2 advantage after three innings.
Starting pitcher
Kailey Stolowski held the Pioneers off the board after the first inning, allowing just two hits the rest of the game. This allowed the offense to step up and end the game early with a big fifth inning.
Seven runs in the bottom of the fifth would be enough to end this one early via the eight-run rule. After RBIs from
Samantha Heppel and
Kailey Stolowski and runs scored by Heppel (wild pitch) and
Mackenzie Catan (error),
Emily Lacki hit a bases clearing three RBI double to make an 11-2 game and end the doubleheader with a split.
BY THE NUMBERS:
- Lacki (2-4, 3 RBI, 2 R, 1 2B) and Alana Yadov (2-3, 1 R) each recorded multiple hits to lead the Hilbert offense.
- Kailey Stolowski pitched all five innings for the Hawks, allowing two runs to earn her eighth win of the season.
