KEUKA PARK, N.Y. – Hilbert College Softball traveled to Keuka Park this evening for a doubleheader against the Keuka College Wolves. Despite splitting the two games, the 21-run effort on the day was the best single day offensive output from the Hawks since 2013.
Hilbert built a 9-2 lead in game one, but Keuka rallied to score the last eight runs of the game for the 10-9 win after eight innings.
Twelve runs on fourteen hits, combined with just one run allowed by
Alana Yadov and
Kimberly Bentley, led to a 12-1 Hilbert win in five innings in game two.
Game 1:
The Hawks opened the scoring in the top of the first after
Emily Lacki's RBI double scored
Makenna Smith for an early 2-1 lead. Keuka responded with two runs of their own to make it 2-1 after one inning.
Hilbert got the next eight runs of the contest over the second, third, and fourth innings for a commanding 9-1 lead.
Marissa Czombel (2),
Alana Yadov,
Makenna Smith,
Kaitlin Stolowski,
Victoria Hanley, and
Chloe Champagne each earned RBIs for the Hawks in this scoring outburst.
However, Keuka answered these runs with eight straight runs of their own over the final five innings of the game, including the only run in the eighth inning, to earn the walk-off win.
The Wolves paired two runs in the fourth, one run in each the sixth and eight innings, and four runs in the seventh inning with four straight scoreless Hilbert innings to come back and win game one.
BY THE NUMBERS:
Game 2:
After a scoreless first inning, Hilbert scored three runs in the top of the second for a 3-0 advantage.
Emma Gionta and
Makenna Smith recorded RBIs, while
Kailey Stolowski added the other run in the inning for the Hawks.
The scoring continued in the fourth inning as the Hawks put up four more runs to extend the lead to 7-0. Smith's second RBI of the game,
Emily Lacki's two RBI double, and
Kimberly Bentley's sacrifice fly did the damage for Hilbert.
Keuka got a run back in the bottom of the fourth, but Hilbert still held a 7-1 advantage heading into the fifth inning.
A five-run fifth inning from the Hawks and a scoreless bottom half of the inning from the Wolves led to the end of this one due to the eight-run rule.

Kimberly Bentley (2), and
Samantha Heppel (1) recorded RBIs in the final frame as the Hawks took game two 12-1.
