EBENSBERG, PA – Hilbert College Softball traveled to Pennsylvania this afternoon for an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference doubleheader with Mount Aloysius.
Mount Aloysius got two runs in both the fourth and sixth innings to win a low scoring game one by a score of 4-3.
Hilbert scored the first two runs of game two, but 10 of the next 14 runs belonged to Mount Aloysius for a 10-6 Mountie win to complete the sweep.
Game 1:
The pitchers were dealing early in game one, keeping zeroes on the scoreboard for the first three innings. Hilbert pitcher
Kailey Stolowski struck out three Mounties in this span.
Hilbert opened the scoring in the top of the fourth when
Emily Lacki scored on an error after singling earlier in the inning to make it 1-0.
A two-run home run in the bottom of the fourth inning got the Mounties on the board and gave the hosts the lead.
Neither team was able to add to the scoreboard in the fifth, keeping it a 2-1 game heading into the sixth inning.
After a 1-2-3 top of the sixth from the Hawks, Mount Aloysius got a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning to extend the lead to 4-1 heading into the seventh inning.
Hilbert made things interesting in the seventh when
Alana Yadov homered to score
Victoria Hanley who opened the inning with a single, but the Hawks were unable to find any more offense and complete the comeback.
BY THE NUMBERS:
- Kailey Stolowski pitched all six innings for Hilbert, striking out seven Mounties.
- Yadov (2-3, 3 RBIs, 1 R, 1 HR) led the offense for the Hawks.
Game 2:
After a scoreless first, the Hawks got the game's first runs in the top of the second for an early lead.
Emma Gionta brought
Samantha Heppel home on a sacrifice fly, and
Mackenzie Catan scored on a wild pitch for a 2-0 lead.
A run in both the second and third innings from the Mounties tied the game up heading into the fourth inning.
A scoreless fourth inning saw the teams tied 2-2 going into the fourth inning. Hilbert got three runs in the inning to take a 5-2 lead.
Samantha Heppel's first career home run, a three-run shot, gave the Hawks a three-run lead.
However, a two-run home run in the bottom of the fifth, and a six-run effort in the bottom of the sixth gave the Mounties eight straight runs and a 10-5 lead.
Alana Yadov singled to score
Emily Lacki in the top of the seventh, but the Hawks were unable to get any more runs as they fell 10-6 in game two.
BY THE NUMBERS:
- Heppel (4-4, 3 RBIs, 2 R, 1 HR) had a huge game at the plate the Hilbert.
- Yadov started the game in the circle for the Hawks, going 4.1 innings while striking out three batters.
