HIRAM, OH – Hilbert College Men's Lacrosse traveled to Hiram College this afternoon to face a first-time opponent but both teams were challenged with a long weather delay and finished the game under the lights.
Hilbert and Hiram were knotted at 3-3 midway through the second quarter when the game was interrupted due to lightening. After a very long rain and electrical storm moved through, both teams took the field again at 7:45 pm to complete the final 37 minutes of a running clock game which resulted in a Hiram 11-6 win.
Matthew Kennedy scored four times off six shots on goal while Jason Sage added the other two hits tonight. Joseph Gorman recorded three caused turnovers and was credited with two of the team's five (5) ground balls.
Joey DiMaria (2) and Kristopher Newman (1) feed the offensive push with assists and Landin Piniewski won two faceoffs. Griffin Miller went the distance making 18 saves in 60 minutes.
Jason Sage found the back of the net and Matthew Kennedy scored back-to-back goals forcing the 3-3 score at 3:23 in the opening quarter.
Jason Sage broke the tie at 4:41, just three minutes after the restarted second quarter but the Terriers strung together four unanswered scores to go up 7-4. Matthew Kennedy broke Hiram's momentum at 12:34 and sliced the difference to two points.
The Terriers tallied one more time before the start of the fourth quarter, and they extended their lead as play continued to the final horn.
Hilbert (2-7) concludes the 2024 season next week when they host La Roche University Thursday, April 25th at St. Francis High School (6:00 pm).
