Men's Lacrosse Wins Big on Senior Day

HAMBURG, N.Y. – The Hilbert College men's lacrosse team concluded their 2024 season with a sweep over La Roche University tonight.

Before the Hawks earned a 22-3 win, with nine different players finding the back of the net against the Redhawks, the program honored their three senior athletes in a pregame celebration.

Joseph Gorman concluded his four-year career and Connor Salamida finished his third wearing the royal and white uniform.  Matthew Kennedy, who transferred from Medaille, was recognized for his contributions as a Hawks blending in his Maverick achievements.

Hilbert blanked La Roche through 30 minutes building a 15-goal lead by intermission.  The Hawks pulled back offensively after the break yet still outscored the Redhawks 7-3 in the second half.  La Roche recorded 42 turnovers and earned 28 ground balls to Hilbert's 26 turnovers and 72 ground balls.

Junior Attack Joey DiMaria led the way with nine points (6g/3a) and became just the seventh player in program history to eclipse 100 points in a career. Jason Sage and Matthew Kennedy each added five points with Sage scoring four times while Kennedy matched DiMaria's effort with a team-high three assists.

Three Hawks netted their first collegiate hits with two players tickling the cords twice.  Taivaughn Roach won 22 of the 26 faceoffs, scooping a game-high 16 ground balls and twice took his win straight to the crease for two scores.  David Bolin and Nathan Dell also found their first goals of the season with Dell getting credit for an assist.

Senior Joseph Gorman closed his career in style.  He recorded six caused turnovers and hustled to 10 ground balls, many on the defensive end of the field after breaking up plays.  He did carry the ball full field and attempted a potential career high three shots on goal.  Senior Connor Salamida was a steady player on defense causing two turnovers and scooping two ground balls.

Hilbert closed their 2024 season with a 3-7 record.
