Women's Lacrosse Battled on the Ground Against Mount Aloysius

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Hilbert College Women's Lacrosse team hosted Mount Aloysius College in an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference rematch from a week ago.

The Hawks put up a big fight creating multiple ground ball challenges before dropping the 13-1 loss at Color Park on Elk Street in Buffalo.

The Mounties (3-1) retained their second-best record in the league after closing the conference game outscoring the Hawks 6-1 in the final quarter.

Prior to the 2 pm first draw, the women's team honored two seniors, Abby Dawson and Cassie Troy at center field.

Jessee Jonathan made it a 7-1 score when she converted her free position shot into a goal just 45-seconds into the fourth quarter. 

Mount Aloysius responded with six unanswered hits on athe windy day in Buffalo.

The Hawks doubled the number of Mount Aloysius turnovers, but they also battled on the ground forcing multiple loose balls.  Hilbert recorded a season-high 34 ground balls and were successful in transition, finishing with 18 clears.

Katie Kociszewski was impressive in goal making 20 saves, breaking up plays with three caused turnovers and five ground balls off saves.

Jessee Jonathan led the Hawks with three caused turnovers and six ground balls in openfield action, and won two draw controls.  Samantha Accurso was very busy through the midfield, scooping six ground balls and fighting off double teams as she carried the ball into successful clears.

Madison Matuszak and Courtney Geier each added two caused turnovers and combined for seven ground balls.

Hilbert returns to AMCC action at Elk Street complex Wednesday when they host Wells College at 4pm April 17th.
